favorite lens | whats in my camera bag

Back in 2014 I did a blog about favorite lens and what lenses I used for Stevie Cruz Photography sessions (You can see that blog here).  Today I will share my current favorite lenses and why I love them. But first don’t you want to see all the lenses lined up? Do you notice something about the lenses? They all have a red ring on them, it signifies that they are professional grade high quality glass. Most individuals ask what lens they should purchase when starting to learn how to shoot in manual mode, for those clients I suggest a simple prime 50 1.8 or 50 1.4 for basically daily ‘mom shooting”. The professional grade glass is more expensive as you may guess. So what lenses are showcased here? I shoot wide angle lenses while on location, I shoot with prime lenses and I shoot with zoom lenses (well one to be exact). Lenses pictures above left to right are:

Canon 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lens for outdoor shooting. This is the only zoom lens you will see in my studio. It is definitely one of my favorite lens. I love the bokeh of this lens as you can see here: favorite lens 700-200 Canon

Lens second from left is Canon 135 f/2. This lens is also for outdoor photography, the creamy background is appealing and dreamy. Example below:

Middle lens is Canon 85 f/1.2. This is considered a very pretty lens, one of the more expensive Canon Prime lenses. It is a ‘slower’ lens to focus with so I chose to use this lens for couples and maternity moreover than with children that tend to move quickly. See below:

This lens focal distance is the same as the consumer version but the glass is better and the aperture opens wider creating a more desired blur. *IF you are interested in learning more about how to shoot in manual or to take better picture in manual mode, click the contact button to be added to the email list for my next ‘Camera Talk with SCP’ class* I use this lens a lot in studio and on location. Both indoor and outdoor as you will see here:

My second ‘go to lens’ is often my Canon 35 f/1.4. This lens is perfect for indoor shooting along with up close pictures when captured outdoors. See this lens in use here:

The last lens in my arsenal is my wide angle lens. This is the Canon 15mm, this lens is fun for more artistic images and very small spaces. It is often called the fisheye lens as you will see a very wide version of your frame similar to a standard eye. When looking straight ahead the human eye can still see on both the right and left peripheral sides just as the fisheye lens. I use this lens both indoors and outside:

This camera was released late summer of 2016 and I had to snatch it up, Actually I have 2 bodies. I use them simultaneously if I am shooting video or if I want to use 2 lenses at the same time with out taking more time to switch gear. This camera has so many amazing upgrades from my previous camera body. And if you are looking at the body don’t skip over my favorite strap attached to the camera, its by Aspen Willow. She makes amazing colorful and simple soft straps that will add character to the black ensemble of equipment.

So in short, I am a canon girl. I love my prime lenses and well I love the 70-200 zoom lens as well. Taking pictures has become my job, hobby and love. I enjoy teaching other moms how to take better pictures in their daily life, encouraging them to pick up a true camera rather than the cell phone capture which can so easily be deleted moments after being taken. I hope this helps answer your questions on my equipment, What questions do you still have outstanding about my favorite lens? Post them in the comments below
